CMS will allow modification for 'reason for assessment'

On the recent SNF Open Door Forum, CMS announced that the May manual will include instructions to allow modification of the reason for assessment in A0310, as long as it is the same item set and lookback period.  Not allowing this modification has cost many providers PPS dollars.  Today is March 25th.  If you have an issue in which you need to modify the reason for assessment, I would do the modification as soon as the system allows, which may be April 1st, if CMS hold to their schedule of system upgrades.  That will still be plenty of time to amend any claims if applicable.
